Year 2 - Otters

Otters Class

Year 2 at Trinity aims to provide a happy and seamless transition from Year 1, embedding further and developing the skills and knowledge the children have learnt previously.

We introduce half termly or termly topics to loosely base and theme learning around. Our topics this year are:

  • History of Flight: Why do we remember Amelia Earhart? (Autumn 1)
  • How is Exeter different compared to Edinburgh? (Autumn 2)
  • How has childhood changed? (Spring 1)
  • Where is Cambodia and what is it like for Children in our sponsored school? (Spring 2)
  • Why don’t penguins need to fly? (Summer 1)
  • What was the Golden Hind? (Summer 2)

We value the importance of the children having a balanced and rich curriculum experience and so incorporate weekly time in forest school, music lessons and two sessions of PE alongside core subjects like Maths and English. Specialist teachers in Music and Physical Education teach alongside the class teacher to provide a broad and balanced approach to learning

Useful links for home learning:

  • Doodle Maths – Children will be able to log in at home and complete their “5 a day” and the games. Please do not help your child with this. IT will re-calibrate itself according to how it is completed. Encourage your child to use the HELP tools if they get stuck.
